Trump: Iran wants Hormuz deal ‘because they’re dying’; nuclear red line restated
Before leaving the White House for a college football trip to Knoxville, Tennessee, President Donald Trump told reporters he had rejected Iran’s ceasefire proposal and framed Tehran as negotiating from weakness, Fox News and Reuters reported. “They want to make a deal where they open the strait immediately because they’re losing so badly,” Trump said, claiming “We’re winning tremendously” and calling the U.S. blockade “a wall of steel,” with 29 ships exiting the strait the prior night in his account. He separately posted on Truth Social that Iran “CAN NOT HAVE A NUCLEAR WEAPON,” the New York Post reported, as Treasury’s planned Wednesday shutdown of Iranian airline services and secondary-sanctions pressure continued to shape regional talks — including Iraq seeking U.S. exemptions for some airports, Fox News noted.
